Walter Edward Peterson
Walter E. Peterson was born in the Gleichen district on February 3, 191 1, the youngest son of Jesse J. and Mary Peterson (sic), early settlers in the Standard district. During his younger years he farmed with his parents in that area. Walter passed away July 16, 1988 in Camrose at the age of seventy-seven years.
Walter worked in Turner Valley for many years with the Royalite Oil Company. He married Edna Elliott and to this union one son, Mel was born. Through these busy years he acquired his mechanics ticket, welding ticket and also an Alberta projectionist license. He spent many years operating the theatre at Turner Valley as well as holding his job with Royalite.
He moved to Camrose in 1952, working with General Petroleum as chief mechanic and later as field supervisor. He married Alice Thorne in 1958 at t he Camrose United Church. Their sons, Warren and David completed this family.
Walter travelled throughout Alberta providing inspection services for the oil and gas industry for the remainder of his working career. Walter w as a very resourceful and independent man who was willing to acccept any challenge.
He was predeceased by: his parents; brothers, Alvin and Sydney; sisters, Vera and Emily.
He is survived by: his loving wife, Alice; three sons, Mel of Calgary, Warren and his wife, Marion of Medicine Hat, and David of Camrose; one grandson, four grand-daughters; his brother, Herman of Standard; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
